Ingredients

8 medium sized pears, stalks in tact and still firm

750ml good quality merlot wine

250ml water

175g white sugar

175g brown sugar

3 cinnamon sticks

20ml fresh lemon juice

Zest of half a lemon and orange

Method:

1.In a heavy based wide pot, pour in all the liquids, sugar, lemon juices, spices and zest

2.Heat through slowly, stirring from time to time to ensure the sugar does not burn

3.When the liquid has reduced and thickened slightly, add the pears and poach on a low heat, turning occasionally

4.Check after 45-50 mins if flesh is tender

5.Remove from pot and set aside

6.Boil liquid rapidly to a thick and sticky consistency

Serve warm or cold, with cream, with pancakes or icecream!!

they turned out so delicious.. if ur taste is a little less sophisticated see 2moro what else we made that day.. heehee

i first saw these on my favorite period movie of all time – marie antoinette – theyre SO sooo awesome! theyre basically beautiful tea flowers and leaves that unfold when you pour hot water over them :) lovely… and tasty.

see the tea > transform from a tea ball (heehee) to pretty flower tea.. in this case ‘Swimming Marigold’
