thriftlings

Yesterday I did a bit of thrifting. I only went to one shop and got so many nice things for about R120. Have a look, I really think I picked up some winners!

Polaroid Land Camera with original packaging – R30 to add to the collection

Johnson Brothers Blue Jug – R10

Lovely accordion skirts which I’ve been spotting just about everywhere on the fashion interwebs.

Found two almost identical to the ones above for 40 ronds each : )

Everything was from the Hospice in Parkmore. You get to find nice things and help charity! nice!

wipe those fruit loops off your face

Photographer, Meg Wachter made these limited edition prints in aid of the relief efforts in Japan.

Some are pretty gross (there’s one with tomato paste). But I though these were pretty awesome!

On a more serious note. Here’s another poster in aid of relief efforts in Japan.

simple clean lovely packaging

stunning, visually pleasing pacakaging from Common Good : Safe, green, hard working household cleaners + soaps in bottles you can refill!

Oh Cavalier!

This is something for the guys found via Frankie. Cavalier has a range of awesome vintage men’s products. Think “If Steve McQueen carried a beat-up leather duffle bag on the back of his motorcycle, what would be in it and how would the products look?” The photography really bowls me over! wow!

colours of spring

colours of springI am welcoming Autumn to South Africa but summer seems to be quite insistent to stay a bit longer! It’s been SO HOT!

All the readers up north heading into Spring, have you started buying any spring clothing yet? How pretty are all these spring lookbook outfits from Jcrew? They really always have the loveliest items of clothing. I just LOVE all these colour combinations and the bright lipstick!

Ooh. Just imagine, no more stockings or boots or coats – just bare legs, and open shoes! For this you may require a pedicure to freshen up your feet a bit, may I recommend the new Essie Spring colours.

essie-french-affair-nail-polishes-1-590essie-french-affair-nail-polishes-2-590Entitled “French Affair” and inspired by 1960s glamour, the nail polish shades are as flirtatiously coquettish as are the names. All of the feminine splashes offer opaque coverage, unlike most of the sheers we see come spring.

The upbeat and fun shades include: Nice Is Nice, Coat Azure and the namesake, French Affair — which are all Easter-ready hues of lavender, periwinkle blue and a bunny light pink.

Meanwhile, Topless & Barefoot, Sand Tropez and Kisses And Bises glamourize the neutral territory with shades of sandy peach, cafe au lait and iridescent neutral.

“Located in the Parkhurst village, our courtyard on 4th opens from 9:00 – 2:00 every Saturday, and a monthly night-market. Our partners are the purveyors of conscious, artisanal, happy food. They range from bakers to butchers and coffee to cupcakes”

Spring frolicking

There’s definitely a chill in the air this week as we (south africans and austrailians) head into autumn. All the luckies up north are heading into spring! It must be warming up slowly, getting a bit lighter a bit earlier. I love how the seasons change! Have you started buying some spring clothing or started adding to your autumn/winter wardrobes?

I love these pretty pictures of Kirsten Dunst for Band of Outsiders, this is ‘boy’, their spring collection. Doesn’t she look awesome?

weekend at the hillhouse

this last weekend was a long weekend here in SA and we packed up with some friends and headed into the midlands (the country) for the weekend to the pretty Hillhouse (by recommendation of Angie & Jelena – don’t be mad!) ; )

It was such a lovely place. beautiful views and such an awesome house! It is a converted barn (so it’s a massive) which has walls of windows to let the light in. It’s decorated in a kind of shabby chic/mismatched way – I really felt like I had walked into a Frankie Magazine. It was so cosy and nice. There was a fireplace too but it’s still quite summery so we didn’t light it up. We ate a lot of food and drank lots of wine and were pretty sad to leave it yesterday.

hillhouseholiday-38hillhousehere a few pictures of the house and the weekend. I’m terrible at only a selecting ‘a few’.

I definitely recommend a weekend away here : ) Its pretty affordable and not too far from JHB or DBN!
