the Olympus Pen: a camera review

FRIDAY 8 JULY, 2011  /   COMMENTS [3]

I get a lot of people who ask what camera and editing programs I use for my blog photos so I decided to do a emmjanenation first.. and do a review! I'm no pro and wouldn't consider myself a "photographer". I just really like taking nice pictures.

So this is it. The Olympus pen E-P1. We have it in silver, but how awesome does it look in white?

It's fully manual, there are interchangeable Lenses from 7 to 800mm, and it's SUPER light. Dyl and I both have SLR's and they're just not practical for travelling, or taking to a coffee shop.. So he bought the Olympus just before our Paris trip last year.. and it's still going like a bomb. It's probably our favourite camera and best buy ever.

and.. it just looks rad! Everybody is always so fascinated that it's not a film camera because it has that proper old school olympus look.

I used it for my latest London trip, and the things I love about it is 1. it's so light 2. the colours are always beautiful 3. the depth of field is awesome 4. it's so easy to use 5. I shoot square format - so my pictures always fit snugly into my blog posts 6. I can put the memory card right into my macbook (no cables!) and upload immediately to Lightroom.

Lightroom is the program I use to edit and export all my pics (Dyl finally convinced me to use it after a few years of only using photoshop) and it's really improved the way I edit all my blog photos and in half the time too. I really recommend it.

It might've changed but the retail price on the Pen is around R7000. It's a lot for a non-slr, but I promise you'll get so much use out of it. It's been worth every rond.

Looks like you had the most amazing time! So jealous...that games arcade as well. I used to rock the Jurassic Park pinball game at our local mall like nobody's business!
