happy holidays
this post doesn’t have much to do with christmas. mostly happiness. and holidayness.
We’ve been in Cape Town for about 3 days now and starting to reeeally relax.
Hope you all have a lovely christmas weekend!
I might blog sporadically* over the next few weeks. Hope thats okay ; ) (Follow me on instagram – I take pics there everyday!)
*doesn’t this word always remind you of the movie clueless?
someone throw me some neon and gold spray paint now!
I want to make these so badly. I want to unpack the little farm animals we’ve bought for my little nephew and spray them incredible colours! They would look so awesome on our shelf : ) hee. Dylan will probably think i’m crazy!
I’m still keen though. maybe for my office space next year.

head strong
I have to admit, i’m not THAT adventurous with fashion. I like high waisted pants, the occasional high wedge heel and bright red lips on special occasions but I don’t really buy sparkly blazers or black leather shorts as nice as they look on models, one: probably because my student/future junior salary might not be able to handle it and two: you get comfortable where you’re at and relaxed around the people you interact with. After reading this blog post by the Pessimiss (A very fashionable Capetownian visiting JHB) I got encouraged (and a little scared admittedly) into being a bit more BOLD in the way I dress and even in the way I design as a Joburg Creative. Read it. It’s super interesting and well written.
Ok lets start: Collar necklaces & Turbans – Two trends i’m quite liking this summer.
Collar necklaces (worn under a collar)

My find (Apologies for the instagram quality)
Found at Oriental City for R50 (and will look a lot nicer under a collar!)
Turban Time
I love how fresh and effortless this look can be.
My translation
Also at Oriental City for R30 a pop!
I should’ve got them in every colour! Buuut just wanna feel them out first before they become my identifier.
So. there you have it. Part one of my quest to make more bold fashion decisions without going broke!
over and out.
into the woods
A while ago I posted about looking for a lovely wooden dining room table for our home. The search was long and tough and there were a few amazing ones way out of budget (the ones that we would go look at EVERY time we’d walk past that particular shop)…
Eventually and fairly recently we got wind of a two day massive sale at Weylandts from a friend who used to work there. We went there on day 2 and came home with this amazing trestle table made out of reclaimed Elm wood. It’s flippin’ heavy! 130kg to be exact but it’s soo lovely and really adds a pleasing presence to our space.
I don’t know much about all the different types of woods but on our travels we figured out Pine isn’t the best long term option for a wooden table. Elm and Oak are probably one of the best we’ve seen. Elm is known for it’s durablitiy and resistance to decay even in moist environments, Oak is also very strong and hardy (here you can find real oak furniture).
I just love a lot of wood in a neutral space. Here a few spaces i’ve pinned
Now I just need a home in the country with huge kitchen to put my Elm Wood table in! I love our little townhouse but I do dream of a place with bigger rooms and higher ceilings. mmm.
