Food Wine Design + Giveaway

Barrydale Hand Weavers

Guys it’s almost time for the Sanlam Investments FoodWineDesign Fair! This is one of my favourite events of the year. I always taste something i’ve never had before (like these stuffed zucchini flowers above), always find a new delicious wine to stock our racks with and always find soo many beautiful desirable design objects.

It’s back on the roof of Hyde Park Corner from 8 – 10 November 2013.

Opening times:

Friday 8 November: 12pm – 10pm

Saturday 9 November: 10am – 10pm

Sunday 10 November: 10am – 4pm

All the favourites are back this year including Anatomy design, Craft Liquor merchants,  Inverroche Distillery (Gin!), Idiom wines, Dear Rae, Pichulik, Skinny laMinx and sooo many more. For a full list of exhibitors go visit the FWD site here.

I’m running an incredibly cool giveaway this year. I’m giving away rugs from Barrydale Hand Weavers and 5 x sets of tickets to the fair with one of the winners receiving a R3000 Sanlam unit trust investment towards your ULTIMATE, once in your lifetime food, wine or design trip/experience.

1st Prize: 1 set of tickets + R3000 Sanlam Unit Trust Investment

Runners up: 4 x double tickets + a bedside rug from Barrydale Hand Weavers.

Is it your dream to go champagne tasting in France? or perhaps to go on the ultimate foodie tour of all the best spots in New York City? I have so many of these food and wine fantasies. I would love to go back to Babylonstoren (this time for a full week of relaxing, eating and drinking), or perhaps go back to Italy , stay in a Villa and spend a few days sampling the best cheese and wine of the region.

Whatever your dream is, this is your opportunity to get a bit of head start in saving up for it ; )

Above is the rug from Barrydale Hand Weavers. Watch this clip for a behind the scenes look at the process of making these awesome rugs.

I’d love an integrated dressing room and bathroom. So the shower in the middle of the room, slightly sunken, two glass panels only and with a rain maker shower head, so that it feels that you’re completely immersed! Cupboards on two of the walls. With loads of natural light in the form of sky lights.
Tough to explain so here’s an image: https://pro.hansgrohe-int.com/medias/sys_master/celum_assets/37__aap24018_tif.jpg?4

and maybe – just maybe a super comfy, good for your back study desk chair 🙂

Tucked away in Bologna, Italy, is a Gelato University that offers various courses in gelato-making, as well as the in the logistics of running your own traditional gelato store. My foodie fantasy is to live there for a few months and get schooled up in the (dangerous) art of gelato making while exploring the region. I would then return, a little happier, a little rounder, fluent in Italian and ready to start my own South African Gelato store in the heart of Jozi 🙂

My ultimate foodie dream is to experience the exquisite sushi made by 85-year-old Jiro Ono, who owns the Michelin Guide 3-star sushi restaurant in Japan, Sukiyabashi Jiro. I recently watched an incredible documentary about the restaurant called Jiro Dreams of Sushi, and would do just about anything to taste his creations!

I think you have to be having a food experience whole looking at some amazing design. Like take away fish & chips outside the Tate Modern in London.. And then a Nutella crêpe while strolling through the cobbled streets of Monmarte. And then some sweet bowties while hiking along the Great Wall, or tucking into a street hotdog while riding the ferry from Manhattan to the Statue of Liberty! How amazing would that be??

My dream is design related… when I start working and finally finish studying at the end of next year I want to buy my first house… something old and cheap and small with a good structure that I can fix up as I like and when my children are older and we’ve moved somewhere with space for them to run and play I can drive past that teeny little house and go “look babies, this was your first home!”.

I haven’t travelled much and I really want to go to Greece and Spain. It’s so beautiful and rich in culture. I love food and I think the food in these countries will be delicious. What I love most is the culture of sharing of food in the form of meze or tapas. Food is meant to be enjoyed, and what better way than to share it with someone you love. And I love the idea of unit trusts and saving for a goal 🙂 have tweeted as @samiola_88 as well

What an awesome prize!! I would love to taste my way around the world, I’m a major foodie, so the thought of traveling anywhere exotic makes me super excited. On the top of the list is India, Spain and Morocco; pebbled streets and narrow alleyways where a gem of a place is hidden to be discovered. oohlala.

I’m just in time! Hopefully. Firstly, a beautiful English manor with a forest if a backyard, and original crafted mouldings and hand-pressed ceilings, with marble floors thoughout (!), and baby balconies poking out from every room. Secondly, I would love to visit my aunt in Greece, and as she is all alone with no family there it would mean the world for her – and for me, with exciting adventures to follow.
