Go Explore / Amsterdam in Winter

Adventure is out there.

In the spirit of adventure and discovery i’ve decided to start a series called “Go Explore” (A better name for Travel Tuesdays). It’s going to be a travel bucket list of sorts. Seeing where other people have gone in the world and showcasing some local travel too.

We went on a wonderful European adventure last year and we loved every place we visited… but it also made us realise how incredibly beautiful our own country and continent is and how much we’d like to explore it so much more!

One place we visited last year was Amsterdam in summer. You can see my Amsterdam city guide here.

We loved it in the summer, but when I came across these incredible snowy pictures of Amsterdam on a blog called Leafde I think i’d quite like to visit in winter too. How magical do all the cruisers look covered in snow? I can imagine it would be frightfully cold walking/biking around town, but I also can imagine it would be quiet and lovely with no queues, warm cafes and bottomless stroopwafels.

Excuse me now while I go look up flights to Amsterdam. (FYI current prices on Emirates are about R7500 return).

I really love Amsterdam. I was in the city December 2012 just in time for the Christmas floats. It was one of the most wonderful experiences to be a part of and I’d love to do it again.

So beautiful! I’ve always wanted to go to Amsterdam! I wonder if the canals freeze over and people can skate on them?
