Secret Eats Dinner

EJN | Secret Eats

Last month Dylan and I attended our very first Secret Eats dinner… we just so happened to be the hosts at this particular dinner as well!

It’s 11:37am on Saturday the 26th April and Dylan and I suddenly realize that in just 7 hours our home is going to be filled with 40 strangers. All coming for dinner! “We better start cleaning” we thought. So we cleaned! I made flower arrangements and kick-ass playlist, Dyl strung up some bistro lights (DIY post here) and then it all started happening! Waiters arrived to set up a looong table in our back garden. The Chef arrived with her team. It was all happening so fast. Strangers invading our home, and there was nothing we could do about it! We quickly went to get changed and started to catch a scent of gourmet dishes being prepared, cocktails being mixed and candles being lit.

BEEEEEPH! The first guests had arrived! What do we do!

Luckily the lovely Thando Moleketi from Secret Eats played hostess and welcomed the guests so we could keep the secret for as long as possible that this was in fact our humble abode.

It was so lovely and strange meeting so many different people at once. People from all over the world. “Foodies” all looking for a unique dining experience in their city.

Debbie Barrow was our excellent Chef for the night. She prepared an incredible menu. 5 courses of scrumptiousness. (See 3 of the 5 below).

Above: The dessert was Saffron and Verjuice poached pears with a vanilla mascarpone cream. The mains a Honeyed Duck Confit on a bed of spring onion mash and wilted spinach, served with a cactus pear reduction. The first starter (bottom right) was a Fig, Parma Ham and gorgonzola parcel drizzled with a thyme infused balsamic glaze.

I’ve really loved the Secret Eats concept from the beginning. I LOVE the fact that it’s all a big secret, and that’s part of the fun. You have to request an invitation to join “the club”. You’ll then receive invitations and once you rsvp to an event in your city you won’t know where you’re dining or what’s being served until the day of the event!

I would really recommend trying it out (alone or with friends!), and if you have a cool space why not host one? It was pretty painless and pretty awesome.

To request an invitation to attend a dinner, visit them here and apply.

Ps. I’m hoping to host a few soiree’s of my own here again. Would any of you be keen for a blog dinner? : )
