She and Him Vol. 3

THURSDAY 11 APRIL, 2013  /   COMMENTS [0]

I'm enjoying this sweet new She and Him single from bed this morning (still fighting off the influenza unfortunately). How are your mornings going? Swell I hope! ('cause She and Him makes me say things like swell and influenza) ; ).

Out with the old

MONDAY 18 MARCH, 2013  /   COMMENTS [7]

If you've seen any of my tweets and instagrams lately you'll see i'm doing a spring clean of life, in every facet that I can.

I think every now and then it's necessary to stop and assess how you're living life, how you're treating people and what kind of message you're sending out to the world. With this blog I feel like i've lost direction  a bit (maybe a lot), and i've been trying to find it again this year.

I've cleaned up the look of my blog a bit (with the help from some great people), started the process of going through old posts and fixing up a few things where necessary. It's not perfect yet, nor will it ever be (but i'm cool with that).

As of last month i've been blogging for 4 years and it's been a wild ride, i've loved all the little benefits of having a blog, i've loved sipping champagne at launches and getting presents in the post box but i'm ready to draw the line in the sand when it comes to brands and PR (and i'm sorry it's taken me this long to do it). I love this little space of mine on the internet and I don't want to taint it.

This means i'm not going blog any old thing I come across on the internet, it may mean I blog less but my aim is to put out quality, original content in all the categories I love (as defined above). I'm still going to blog about fashion and cats and lovely trivial things ; ) but i'm going to care less about stats, less about being the first to review a new spot in Joburg, less about trying to make brands happy. I started this blog to be another creative outlet, a space to really inspire myself and the pressure to perform kind of kills creativity.

So i'm stripping back all the layers and in a way starting over.

(Enjoy the new look, and play around a bit, i'll explain the new view and buttons in another post)

WEDNESDAY 27 MARCH, 2013  /   COMMENTS [0]

I blogged about The Makers about a year ago, and it's so cool to see the progress of this project and to see how far it's come (there's even a book out). Here are a few of the latest makers.

New look

FRIDAY 15 MARCH, 2013  /   COMMENTS [1]

I've neatened up my blog a bit. It's needed some spring cleaning for a long time and with the help from some friends and a wonderful husband it's finally done.

We're experimenting with some new technologies so if you come across something strange, please do let me know.

I'm also in the process of going through and straightening out old posts, tags and pictures so some of the past posts might bring up some embarrassing history.

There's also a new logo in the works.

On Monday i'll do a proper introductory post on all that's new around here.

Please let me know what you think and if you come across anything suspicious.

Euro Tips?

WEDNESDAY 13 MARCH, 2013  /   COMMENTS [10]

Pro's and Con's about being in the wedding industry. Con: You don't really get much of a December holiday. Pro: Winter is usually dead so you get to go escape the cold and go on a European vacation! Yeah : )

Dylan and I are taking the whole of July off and visiting a few places we've never been to before and also going to our first international music festival together!

(We're awaiting the line up announcement!).

All our flights, and internal travel has been booked but now we're just trying to find accommodation. We've decided to do a mix of really cheap accommodation and some nice (fairly priced) accommodation. If you have any tips for us we're looking to book accommodation in Nice here Amsterdam, Croatia, Italy (we're driving down the boot, but looking for nice places on the coast too), Suffolk (UK) and Barcelona.

Also if you know of any must see sneaky non-touristy spots in these areas we'd appreciate all the recommendations we can get!

On my search for cool places I found this awesome hotel in Barcelona via Design Milk which I think will suit us just fine ; ) It's called The Chic & Basic Ramblas Hotel. It looks pretty basic but has been beautifully designed.

"The designers of the hotel created an experience around the ’60s in Spain, matching the building’s 60’s vibe. With 97 rooms on six floors, the design is crisp and fresh, no-nonsense and comfortable. Using the doors of the rooms and exhibition panels, the hallway of each floor projects a specific aspect of those years: Culture and Society, Design Icons, Tourism, Advertising, Folklore, “Gauche Divine.”

How sweet is that little car in the middle of the common room?

I also found this article on the top 10 boutique hotels in Barcelona *sigh*  for one day when we're rich and famous photographers.

Time and distractions

TUESDAY 19 FEBRUARY, 2013  /   COMMENTS [0]

It's amazing how un-distracting a pen and paper can be. Just you and the empty pages, and the ink waiting to be used up.

No phones (with their myriad of things you 'need to check'). No open laptop or computer. No radio or tv.

Just putting pen to paper no matter what it is you're putting there sets your thoughts straight. You can talk to yourself, which is something we all need to do sometimes. Like asking yourself "Where am I at"?

I had a full day of admin yesterday. I went to home affairs, sat in the queues and finally changed my ID and passport to my married name... only about two years late. Also my license disk expired at the end of January so I had to brave the airless, understaffed post office to get it done, and to top it all off my drivers license expires in 4 days. Fun!

It's amazing how things catch up with you so fast and how suddenly you're an adult and you have to deal with all of this without a parent telling you exactly what you need to do!
