I love mini anything and I’ve loved pictures of these mini pies floating around Pinterest that yesterday while I was feeling sorry for myself for being sick I decided to make them for tea. There’s something about hot apple pie right?

The great part about this recipe is that the ingredients are so simple you probably already have them lying around your house, I didn’t have to go out and get a thing!

Crust

2 cups flour
2/3 cup butter (chilled)
1 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons water

Filling

5 medium apples (peeled and chopped up into small pieces)
3/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
6 tablespoons flour
2 tablespoons butter (chilled)

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Get muffin pan out. No need to grease it.
In food processor blend flour, salt and butter until it looks like little peas.
Add in water and blend just until it looks like it’s sticking.
Take out and combine it by hand until well blended.
Roll out on lightly floured surface until about 1/4 inch thick.
Cut 12, 4 inch circles with cup or bowl.(You will need to roll out twice).
Note: you can use the rest of the crust for anything you may want to do on top of the pies.
Press each circle in muffin tins until all the way up each side, to form little bowls.
Mix by hand all filling ingredients and spoon into muffin bowls.
Cut up butter into 12 little pieces and place one piece on each pie.
You can decorate them anyway you like with extra crust, or just leave plain.
Bake at 425 degrees for 16-18 minutes. (Until crust is light brown and apples are bubbling).
When cool, just loosen with a spoon and they’ll come right out!

The new hotel (or palace) by Francis Ford Coppola.

“Palazzo Margherita, built in 1892 in Bernalda by the Margherita family, is a true 19th century palazzo. The town was the birthplace and home to Agostino Coppola, Francis Ford Coppola’s grandfather, who always referred to it affectionately as “Bernalda bella.” Francis purchased the Palazzo in 2004 with the desire to transform it into a small, luxurious hotel, believing it was time to introduce visitors to this stunning and still undiscovered region.”

Paradiso! But one of these rooms might cost you up to 10,000 Euro’s for a week. Ouch.

French Cuisse is not your average food blog. It is beautifully styled pieces of food art on a white scalloped plate plus recipes and photos of the ingredients beautifully laid out in perfect symmetry.

I don’t know how the owner of this blog has the discipline to make everything look so perfect while cooking. I try do styled food posts of meals and baked goods I think you’ll like but the truth is I don’t post 90 % of them because they don’t look nearly as perfect as this, there’s always a bit of spill of sauce or flour.. or perhaps the light doesn’t make the food look as good as I know it is.. but this.. this is food perfection.

The weekly forage # 2 : Books bought and never read

Some of these books were inherited, some were found on dusty shelves in the Midlands but they all spoke to me in some way. It might have been the embossing, debossing or gold leafing. It might have been the strange colours or illustrations inside… but they are all special in some way even though they are completely arbitrary. It’s probably the designer/art director in me that loves anything visually and tactility appealing.

Hello everyone! How was your loooong weekend? In SA we’ve had two public holidays on either side of the regular weekend, which made for a super long mini holiday. We relaxed a bit but were actually rather busy, we shot an amazing wedding at Arts on Main, edited old weddings and stop motion videos, and prepped for another wedding coming up this friday! It’s been a busy busy one but I’ve actually loved it.

We also got an Olloclip for our iphones which is a really cool detachable lens for iphone. Our favourite is the fisheye lens : ) It turns your iphone photos into Lomo-style (plasticy camera) type photos : ) Here are a few I snapped behind the scenes at the wedding on saturday

my crazy weekend in emmagrams

We had one crazy weekend. Going non stop from one thing to the next, catching red eye flights and witnessing two lovely weddings. Here’s an instagram run down of the weekend’s events.

It all started on thursday eve, packing for an earrrly flight on friday morning. (These cheap flights are cheap for a reason. wowza).

We land in Cape Town at about 8:30 am, go get our hired car (Dyl hired an old Mazda M5 (hope this right?) convertible). It was super fun, except for the part where my hair turned into dreads. We were in Cape Town for a wedding in Wellington in the afternoon so we had about 2 hours to do something. The only thing I wanted to do was visit Mr & Mrs which I hadn’t seen before and the only thing Dylan wanted to do was to get a Power and the Glory hotdog (Yes they are that amazing). We got to P&G at about 11:15 and confidently ordered our much anticipated hot dogs, they then informed us they ONLY serve lunch from 12pm.. : ( We had to seriously beg them and guilt them with the fact that we came all the way from Joburg, we had 2 hours in Cape Town city and all we wanted was one of their amazing hotdogs… after much whispering and discussion between the manager and the waitress they said we could have our ‘dogs and eat them too! yay!

Then off we drove to Wellington, a little town 45 minutes outside of CT. We checked in to our place, and had a quick lunch and some delicious wine before the wedding.

and then we went to the wedding at the loveliest venue called Kleinevalley – Check out the view!

After a fun wedding of eating and dancing, we fell into bed only to have wake again for an early flight back to Joburg for my sister’s 30th which was a vintage Wimbledon themed party, it was so much fun and definitely worth the early flight back.

It was a truly lovely party and lots of tea and scones were consumed by all : )

The next day Dyl and I assisted on a wedding here in JHB, and on the same day had our first show day for our townhouse, so saturday night was full of preparations for the next crazy day.

I have to admit that by Sunday I was feeling tired and a bit emotional. I love being busy but this weekend took it out of me. I’m glad at the possibility of selling our place and possibly moving to a bigger one but at the same time I need some craziness to settle.
